Trillian App Reviews

a yawning gap on my dock.

i really dont see what makes this so special. im not gonna complain cuz it was free but honestly its kinda pointless... i used it once and never used it again.

so far, I like it...

I just downloaded this app moments ago... It connected me to facebook, Yahoo, Gmail, and twitter. So far, it hasnt failed on me - i dont think it will. So, I must give this a 5 star!

Great but could use some adjustments

So here are some problems i have with this: 1. Multi-Chat for MSN messenger is terrible. Hard to initiate and once it starts a tab opens for every message. No names either. 2. No MSN Display pics. 3. Frequent Connection issues. Some people just cant message me. 4. How are the basic MSN emoticons not compatible yet? 5. People on Google Chat dont play any audio notifications. At all

Not helpful support

Cant delete history, or at least not easy to do. Tried contacting them to ask for help, and they just sentd an automatic response saying they cant help. No really that helpful!

Missing feature...

No jabber chat room support on mac version!

Fix the Tab Conversations! Great app though

At least give us an option between the vetical and horizontal tabs! This is a great app, stable and fast, might as well be an Apple engineered app!

Not bad

Makes having multiple accounts easier to manage between devices. I dont mind having an astra account. Too bad the only way to buy the mobile client is with a 1-year subscription though.

New Chat Tabs are ugly and useless

The new chat tabs are ugly, and can never fit the entire names of my contacts. Please revert to the previous version.

Needs IRC support

I tried Trillian at the recommendation of a few friends who love it. They use it as a default client for Chat and Twitter. On its own I would say Trillian is a slick IM client but I am looking for a client that will allow me to unify all my chat accounts. For the protocols it supports it is a slick client. Unfortunaltely, after a few days I found the lack of IRC support to be a deal breaker for me. If you dont use IRC then Trillian is a nice IM solution that compares favorably to Adium.

Sluggish, connection issues with MSN, so many better apps.

I wanted to give Trillium another try - I liked the idea of Twitter, FaceBook integration along with all of my other messaging clients. Ive been a long user of Adium. After booting it up and configuring it, it just would not connect to MSN. And it requested I authorize FaceBook twice, and then did nothing with that authorization. And they store all of your information on their servers, which I dont particularly trust. Theres no easy way to delete your data, you have to request their customer support staff do it for you, and of course, theres nothing to actually confirm that it was deleted, so I went and changed all of my passwords. So back to Adium, or iChat (using Jabber to connect to MSN). I truly dont think this is worth the headache of trying, since, if youre at all concerned about online security, you have to change your passwords afterwards.

I like the chat synchronization.

Short version: - Trillian synchronizes across multiple devices. - Trillian needs to store login information in order to synchronize said devices. - Trillian is a tiered product, with a yearly fee ($12) for certain Pro features. - Trillian Mac isnt as developed as the Windows client: also lacks IRC. - Trillian works on multiple platforms (Windows, Macs, phones, browser). Long version: Trillian lets me move to any device; it lets me continue the same conversation no matter where am. It even shows me the most recent chat history Ive had anywhere for a given contact. I prefer the Adium UI. Its more elegant, the contact list is easier to read, there are far more options for customizability (please give us a simple view, Trillian! I hate bubbles!)… but I also have multiple devices thatre constantly on, and connected to the internet. For this, Trillian offers a level of convenience I simply cannot get with Adium. With Adium (and presumably, most other clients), Id need to log the client off on all of the kit Im not currently using, otherwise facing hassles such as "oh, you sent me a message? I guess it went to one of my other devices" and "You are signed on in multiple locations. Please click this link to log off…". If you dont use multiple devices and have them activated constantly, then perhaps Trillian isnt for you. Trillian does store your passwords on their servers. Im fairly certain they need to in order to synchronize your IM clients. Think about it: logging into certain services will normally disconnect you from other devices. I suspect Trillians servers act as the main client, which then pass messages back up to you. If you dont like the idea of Trillian storing your passwords, then perhaps Trillian isnt for you. If you dont like the idea of messages passing through Trillians servers, then perhaps Trillian isnt for you. That said, I dont reuse my Trillian/IM passwords for anything important, and I really dont see the feasibility of Trillian spying on me, or any of their other millions of users. This is especially given that theyve been around for a decade, and such a fiasco would likely mean heavy legal penalties (and besides, whats to stop someone at Microsoft or AOL from doing the same, if thats a concern?). >>>> I also want to mention that the synchronization in addition to the all-in-one nature of Trillian requires that you keep your Trillian login safe… moving along... The third point I want to bring up is cost. Trillian is a tiered product; a few features are only available to Pro users, for which you need to pay $12 per year. Its inexpensive, but it is ongoing, and it certainly isnt free. The extras seem to be: - Online chatlog backup. - Better support (Ive never needed support, so I cannot comment). - Removal of ads. This is probably the big one. I cant really comment on the ads. Ive held a pro account for a couple of years now, and dont know what the free client looks like. The Trillian for Mac client also isnt as developed as the Windows client. This is almost tangential as the Windows client should contain all (and more) functionality, and so the focus falls on the Mac version. HOWEVER it does lack an IRC client, which the Windows version has. For a client designed to synchronize multiple devices, this is a shortcoming. If you can accept Trillian despite all these concerns, then I feel that Trillian is one of the better multi-platform clients around: I feel Adium is nicer in a single-machine, Mac-only environment, but Trillian works in Windows, Mac, on phones, and through a web browser. Thats worth something to me.

Couldnt ask for a better Twitter Client

Simple, straightforward, intuitive and easy to use. Efficient program with no figurative "fat" to bring down its quality.

Great multi platforms IM solution

Great client. I use it on Windows, OSX and iOS andit keeps all my conversations synched between devices.

Problematic

This app has some serious issues when on lion, the popups for contact info will appear on top of other windows regularly and it seems to have random events occur.

Needs some features

It needs to support Skype, Яndex, ВКонтакте and Mail.Ru protocols + voice/video chat! It could be also 64bit

Great and getting better!

Been using Trillian for years on all my devices to keep all my instant messaging and whatnot together and synced no matter where I happen to roam. Trillian is an amazing tool with many MANY great features. Although Trillian for Mac has a lot of catching up to do compared to its older brother, Trillian for Windows, little by little it is coming together! This is a must have if you own many devices and use them regularly to communicate with friends, family, co-workers, and what have you. Throw Trillian on your Mac and grab Trillian for iPhone and never miss a message no matter where you are. It is sleak and compact and eligant, just what youd expect from an app on a Mac. What more could you ask for? You will not regret this download. Plus, the price is right!

YAY Retina Mac Support Now!!!

Love it and use everyday to communicate with my co-workers. And its free! Cant beat that :)

Great App!

Not working on Mountain Lion just yet though…Hangs while "Connecting". Waiting for an update :)

Great, minus the security and graphics

Its a lovely and sophisticated client. Its definitely not as customizable as Adium (although too much custimization can become a chore in itself). The security and password issues raised by others are definitely legitimate concerns. Why MUST I create an Astra account to use this application with other services? Thats silly. Who uses Astra? I sure dont know of anyone! Lastly, and this is one of my biggest bugbears with this application: update the graphics for RETINA displays. The icons in the preferences window, the chat status, and menubar neednt be pixelated for high-dpi screens. Those laptops have been out long enough. Fix it.

Couldn’t Set up Jabber

The interface is so much nicer looking than the Cisco Jabber client that I have to use day in and out, but I couldn’t get my Jabber account to connect. As soon as I entered Jabber ID and password, the app would go into and endless loop trying to connect, not letting me adjust the hostname. After forcing a disconnect I still couldn’t get it to work using credentials that work in other apps. It doesn’t work, but it looks really nice.
