Trillian stores the passwords to your various IM accounts, and they can clearly decrypt them if they can log in to those accounts on your behalf for their web client. Theres no good reason for them to store that information on their servers at all.

this app is the best!!! you have msn, twitter, facebook and much more in one app ... its really easy to use , its clean and really nice graphics .... 1000% happy with it. also its better than adium
At first instance a nice app, the many reviews that it would blow away Adium I think is a bit far fetched. Biggest worry about this app is as Marc Tremblay wrote earlier, storing your IM passwords on their servers, no problem for Twitter or Gmail, but I dont want Trillian to have my .Me account on their servers. As Marc wrote, if Trillium can encrypt the passwords, they can decrypt it too! Although the 1-in-all IM part is nice, this is nothing new under. The insecure factor has made me remove this app. No need for Trillium to store my personal passwords on their servers.
Its all fine, except its missing IRC.
Idea of trillian is good. Interface is beautiful. But there is no Skype account connection :-( Otherwise my main concern is about the Astra account. 1 more account to create !!! I desinstall Trillian because I dont want to be on the Astra account but its too late, Ive already created one ... and no option to "erase" my Astra account now... prefer Adium : no additional account to create/register.
Im used to Adium, and only use IM for work on a jabber server. Trillian works well and is easy to set up, and I love the fact that I can use the same account settings on my iPhone. The true reason I would use this instead of Adium is the fact that I like the iPhone app better than anything else I have found so far for keeping in contact with the office. I am disappointed with the Trillian interface though, and how less flexible it is compared to Adium or iChat. I am also disappointed with the apparent lack of chatrooms with the jabber setup. I know our office server has those, and I was able to use them in both iChat and Adium, but not in Trillian.
Its IM feature is great and the twitter integration makes it awesome. But as many times as I click "Check Mail", it just sits there. Not worth even the Free price.
Similar to the newest version of WL Messenger for PC, Trillian gives Mac users a way to integrate social networking with IM. It has not failed me with its beautiful interface and an excellent way to change your screen name. No disadvantages as far as I can see. The program has a menu bar icon for changing status. There is also a Facebook menu bar icon if you integrate Facebook. All in all an awesome program.
I go through the whole process and once I click Register it wont load. Just stays on that screen. Tried multiple times. Not impressed.
It looks real slick, but its missing a few things Adium offers. Ill wait for the next version.
Installed to my first gen MacBook Air. Installs properly, or so it says, but crashes consistently on launch. Reading other reviews see the issues with storing identities in some other cloud service, so even if they fix it, I wont bother trying it again. Pretty is no excuse for lousy security, not that I could even see pretty since it wouldnt launch at all.
I dont use products that require me to store info on their server
Unless i am missing something, there is no way to auto focus the conversation tab on the last received message. This has resulted in many "oops, wrong person" messages to friends. Please at least make it an option to have trillian auto focus the conversation tab on the last received message and this goes from 2 to 4 stars for me.
I keep on getting "This conversation is no longer off the record." using Google Talk. Othe than that, it works as advertised!
Conference chat on MSN doesnt work really well since Trillian doesnt display users name before each message. Besides that, Its a good multi-protocol client, and integrates Facebook and Twitter really well. Got some problems with Facebook chat contacts and authentification, as well as adding new contacts in MSN. I used it for about a month before I switched back to Adium. Dont get me wrong, Trillian is good, but it will take more than just "good" to surpass Adium.
Easy to use, sleek and simple interface. Great Mac alternative for MSN Messenger. I used to use Adium, but this one seems better.
Two days after i installed this app, everyone that follows me on twitter got direct message spam from me telling them that they can make money from home. Im not saying it was this app, but based on what other people are saying about passwords not being secure....
please show unread count on the menu bar icon
as a long time user of trillian i was overjoyed to see it in the AppStore as a Mac OS app. Installed 1.1.1 and started using it as a replacement for Adium, which i like .. but i _really_ like trill. today the AppStore app tells me that version 1.1.3 is available .. but as i installed it from the AppStore the little button now says Installed, not Download, Upgrade or anything useful. Well that is stupid .. i cannot use AppStore to upgrade an app. So i go to the Trillian web site .. its download link is now pointing at a Mac Apps Store Preview page .. so i cannot download the new version from Trillians site either. the Preview page only has a link into the AppStore now .. so clicking it takes me back to the beginning. so i am going back to Adium, which i can install and upgrade in comfort using MacPorts. Trillian will be uninstalled as soon as i fire up MacClean and the issue of having my passwords stored on the trillian servers .. no, i do NOT like that idea at all either
Im a pro user of Trillian for the PC and Ive been a fan of this program/application for AGES. I have it on every device, and its awesome, and this version is no different. However, I do have a few complaints. This version, like the last version, cant really format outgoing text. It seems to be able to set the font, but not a colour. It brings me to a colour select, but none of it sticks. As well, file transfers dont seem to work on anything except the AIM protocol. While in comparisson to the Windows version, this is lacking, it is still a WONDERFUL application, and I say keep up the good work! TRILLIAN ROCKS!!!
